another pair of pairfect

I just wrote yesterday about a pair of pairfect. And now I have anonther pair. Well, actually I am not that quick of a knitter, but since the previous pair was ready already a week or so ago, this pair was knit during last week. Both pairs of socks were done as a present to our friends.

pattern: school-learned basic socks, more about the pattern here

needles: 2,5 mm + 2 mm Chiagoo circular

yarn:
Schachenmayr Regia Parifect
color: jolster (09091)
75% virgin wool
25% polyamide
420m /100g (fingering or light fingering)

The yarn makes ornament of its own and from one skein is enough for a pair of identical socks up to the size of European 46-47, thus the name of the yarn, "Pairfect".

consumption for size 41-43:
85g - 357 m

knittability:
It is a very easy knit for basic socks. The skein comes with the instruction and one does get a pair of similar basic socks. Because the yarn has ornament of its own, it is not suitable for other pattern. Well, stripes would work. But I do not think that any other would.

wearability:
The socks are nice and thin. However, I've got holes quite quick with my first pair of similar socks. But other pair I've used has aged without holes quite nicely.

a pair of pairfect

I have a pair of socks ready. Actually, I have knitted them a week or so ago, but I wanted to log them still.

pattern: school-learned basic socks
The heel is the one I learned from school and I think it is the very traditional one. The toe decreases are started about 5 cm before the desired length. I am not sure about the correct English term for the decrease, but I will name it "stripe" decrease and check the right term later. Decreases are made at the beginning and the end of each needle (I use magic loop, so I only have 2 needles) first every other row and then every row until the bind off.

needles: 2,5 (?) mm Chiagoo circular

yarn:
Schachenmayr Regia Parifect
color: island (09138)
75% virgin wool
25% polyamide
420m /100g (fingering or light fingering)

The yarn makes ornament of its own and from one skein is enough for a pair of identical socks up to the size of European 46-47, thus the name of the yarn, "Pairfect".

consumption for size 39-40:
78g - 328m

knittability:

sock blockers

I have long admired on Instagram other's finished socks on beautiful sock blockers. Somehow the sock's shape and pattern appears and appeals to you in a different way when socks are properly blocked. So I ordered blocks for myself as well.

I ordered my sock blockers from woodico, which is a Ukrainian company producing wooden sock blockers among other things. They shipped the blockers quite quickly and I even got a follow-up code for my purchase. However, it only worked until the package was shipped from Kiev. It took a few weeks before I finally got the delivery message. In the meanwhile I already thought the package to be lost. Luckily, it was not.

The blockers are wooden and well done - no splinters or anything. However, they tend to be on a big size in my opinion. So the XL is really size 43, L 41 and M 39, I think.

Moon Dust shawl by Janina Kallio

pattern: Moon Dust by Janina Kallio
needles: 4,0 mm Chiagoo circular
yarn:
  • Schoppel Zauberball 100
    • 100% merino superwash
    • 400m - 100g
    • color: Rosa 2270_
  • Malabrigo Sock
    • 100% merino superwash
    • 440yards (402m) - 100g (?)
    • color: Eggplant 811

consumption:
Zauberball 304 meters - 76g, Malabrigo 370 meters - 92 g

gauge:
I did not measure my gauge, as I feel this unnecessary. After all, a shawl is not meant to be well fitted to the figure. However, out of curiosity, I did measure the shawl after blocking and the size was: width 196 cm, height 81cm. This is a little less than the pattern, although I did one extra stripe. So my gauge is quite tight.

knittability:
It was a nice and easy knit. Lace pattern is simple and quickly learned and can be knitted while watching TV or podcasts. I did 36 stripes altogether - which was 1 stripe more than in the pattern description.

wearability:
It fits well around the neck - the shape is classic triangular. However, this shawl is going as a present for my aunt - so I will not be able to actually wear it in everyday life. I hope my aunt will like it!

a new start

And so I started a blog. Again. This time about knitting. Now learning how to do it.

I am planning to keep this as my knitting journal. Also planning to do it in English, which is not my mother tongue. So I apologize for all the wrong spelling and incorrect grammar beforehand. However, I do believe that this will be a good practice for me.

Now let's see how this blog turns out :)
